client: WEST VILLAGE FARMS

Serving Up Tasty Greens

West Village Farms is a local indoor farm for growing and harvesting a variety of leafy greens and microgreens. As a start-up, their goal was to create a fresh, unique look for their brand and product. They were told by both their investors and vendors that “setting themselves apart from the competition was going to be paramount” to be successful.

Our approach included an evaluation of the existing direct/indirect competition. While there are only a handful of similar businesses throughout the country, there are a few brands with a stronghold on the industry. What was on the shelves locally consisted of the same 2-4 brands. Their products used a lot of primary colors, large labels, big fonts and lacked a modern aesthetic.

The Results

Based on our research, the goal was to develop a modern, simplistic look with an emphasis on freshness. When choosing a color palette, we wanted a bold and dynamic combo that was different from the competition. We also took into account colors that would be appetizing. We designed a label with a badge-like feel, using clear/transparent portions that really lets the leafy greens shine. The website is bold and clean. Easy to use with simple messaging throughout.

Since the branding project and resulting creative work was completed, West Village Farms has expanded into nine grocery retails store with continuing demand from other interested outlets. The products can be found throughout the Pacific Northwest including Portland, Vancouver, Salem and Seattle. They are ahead of growth predictions and the branding has been well received by vendors and customers alike.
